Avery in forest

Meet Avery

On February 8, 2016 we welcomed our first child into the world: Avery Violet. She was pure joy. She gave us the best gift: the gift of parenthood. Over the next 13 months Avery amazed us with her abilities. She rolled over at 2 months, crawled at 6 months, walked at 9 months and was probably the first 11 month old to hike the canyons of Palm Desert.

Avery’s smile and laughter were contagious as she brightened everyone’s day who crossed her path. Avery taught us the true meaning of unconditional love.

Avery's Goodbye

On March 9 2017 Avery laid down for an afternoon nap and never woke up again. She was 13 months and 1 day old. Our world will forever be changed because of this tragedy. When we think of the person Avery was, the words “loving” and “kind” come to mind first. We want to create a legacy for Avery. We want to honour her by spreading love and kindness in her memory.

Keeping Avery's Memory Alive

“ Death ends a life not a relationship” – Mitch Albom

These are some of the ways we are keeping our relationship with Avery alive:

We wear purple for Avery because her middle name is Violet and her birthstone is Amethyst.

We created  ‘Avery’ buttons to wear so her beautiful face is included in photos.

We donated ‘I’d Know You Anywhere, My Love’ By Nancy Tillman to all the babies born on February 8th at the hospital she was born at.

Our license plate is AVERY16 (for the year she was born).

We dedicated a bench, in memory of Avery, at her favourite park.

We write Avery’s name in sidewalk chalk and in the sand.

We donated to the MEOW Foundation each year on Avery’s Birthday.

We always give the name ‘Avery’ at Starbucks. We love hearing and seeing her name.
